Music

Much as we believe that success in public examinations is important, all pupils have the right to partake in practical music making.

Music plays an important part in the life of The New Eccles Hall School. The department is well resourced and housed in our modern Arts Centre complex.  All class lessons from Year 4 upwards are taught by a music specialist who is supported by a team of experienced instrumental peripatetics.

Every child has classroom music in the curriculum and the opportunity is provided for all to have individual instrumental or singing lessons.

Opportunities for all pupils, of all abilities and aspirations to participate in musical activities at an appropriate level is considered a ‘prime objective’ at New Eccles Hall School.  We are proud in our ability to recognize and nurture individual talent so that  individuals are challenged and equipped to realise their potential.

Throughout the school there are numerous choirs and instrumental groups who rehearse regularly during the school week.  Every child who plays an orchestral instrument takes part in a group at an appropriate level and there are concerts each term in which these groups perform.  Guitarists and drummers also form similar ensemble groups under the guidance of experienced staff and regularly perform at school concerts.

The Senior Choir has performed extensively in the local community in churches and other venues.  There is considerable pride amongst the children in the choir and their repertoire is varied.

Performance opportunities at all levels are a regular feature of musical life, ranging from informal offerings in front of the whole school on Fridays and termly School Concerts.

The school offers assessment through graded music examinations with the Associated Board  of the Royal Schools of Music, Trinity College and ‘Rock School’.  Examinations are often held on site in the Arts Centre.

Visiting Artists at New Eccles Hall School are a regular feature and recent musical activities have seen many students enjoy workshops with Eastern Opera and the stunning guitar playing of Richard Durrant.
