GCSE and Advanced Level Studies

The sixth form offers a good range of GCSE and GCE AS and A level subjects including GCE Applied A levels. The applied courses have a greater emphasis on course work and portfolios so may suit students who find the exams stressful, preferring to work steadily throughout the course. Applied A levels are graded in the same way as traditional A level courses and carry the same points value when applying for higher education.

Some subjects do not require the student to have studied it to GCSE standard so provide the opportunity to start a new area of study.

Most subjects do not insist on a grade C at either English or Maths and where necessary these can be retaken alongside advanced level study.

Courses are divided into two one year options; AS and A2.

Year one:

Students are able to choose up to three AS subjects as well as Key Skills lessons in English. Maths and ICT. GCSE subjects can be retaken in November and June.

Year two:

A2 courses are dependent upon gaining a pass grade in at least two of the three AS modules. Students can continue with the same subjects at A2 or alternatively drop subjects and start different AS level courses. Advice is available on subject choices and possible implications for career and higher education choices.
