GCSE Courses Mathematics This is a one year course which covers all of the necessary material in the four QCA Mathematics assessment objectives. GCSE Mathematics is an essential GCSE if a student wishes to continue with their formal education and is equally sought by many employers. Statistics The principal aim of this course is to increase students’ awareness of the role that accurate statistical representations, calculations, reasoning and interpretation can play in their lives. This one year GCSE course is based on good practice in statistics and emphasizes the theoretical, practical and applied nature of the subject. Geography For GCSE we move to a thematic approach looking at geographical phenomena in detail and using examples from around the globe wherever most relevant. We aim to enable students to understand the nature and function of both physical and human environments, and recognize the interrelationships between the two. English Edexcel’s English GCSE offers lively and varied reading material in a pre-released anthology, including modern poetry and a collection of non-fiction texts. Imaginative writing is given a high weighting as a coursework task, and media texts are studied for examination. Coursework covers the study of a Shakespeare play and texts from different cultures. Citizenship The GCSE short course in Citizenship Studies is based on the key stage 4 citizenship programme of study in the National Curriculum. It is structured to encourage students of all abilities, with innovative and flexible internal assessment that encourages the use of presentation, ICT and oral work. The teaching of citizenship at key stage 4 in England has been statutory from September 2002. Art & Design Our GCSE in Art & Design provides excellent opportunities for learners to develop skills, knowledge and understanding for this sector using a wide range of materials and processes. The content of the in GCSE Art and Design is appropriate and accessible to a range of levels of experience and ability. The specification focuses on art and design practice and the integration of theory, knowledge and understanding to reach a personal response. Assessment is via a mixture of coursework (60%) and an externally set assignment (40%). |
