BTEC First Certificate in Countryside & Environment

This is an exciting course, which is ideal for learners who want to gain both practical skills and knowledge about the countryside. This qualification offers a great foundation for future careers in conservation and environmental work or progression to further training. The course requires students to complete a total of 3 units of study and is the equivalent to two GCSE’s at grade C and above.

  • Countryside & Environment Industry and Organisations

  • Practical land based skills

  • Countryside access and recreation

  • Conservation and improvement of British habitats

  • Introduction to environmental studies

With a high practical content, This qualification would be particularly useful to those planning to become employed as practical workers within the countryside industry.

In addition to the normal stationery needed for study you will also need, steel toe capped boots, Wellington boots, warm and waterproof clothing as you will be working outdoors often.

Additional Qualifications

Your programme of study will include the further development of Key Skills, Wider Key Skills and CoPE, all of which equate to a further four GCSE’s.

We do provide all students access to additional national qualifications. It must be emphasised however, that although we endeavour to provide opportunities for students to complete the qualifications successfully, we cannot guarantee all students will meet the prerequisites nor can we guarantee they will achieve the assessment criteria as a high level of skills and knowledge are required to achieve the qualifications successfully.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous through assignments. A range of assessment methods are used including written tasks, group and individual presentations, reports, video analysis and practical skill observations. All units are assessed, graded and internally verified. A sample of units is then externally verified. An overall grade for the qualification is then awarded according to the accumulative score of all units achieved.
