Pastoral Care

Considerate     v      Sensitive      v      Supportive

The New Eccles Hall School sets out to provide a safe, supportive and caring environment through a comprehensive system of pastoral care for each and every pupil from the moment they arrive in the school through to the end of their time with us and beyond if necessary.     We like to feel that pupils enter a school where as an individual they matter.

On entry to the Junior Department of New Eccles Hall it is the form teacher who takes initial responsibility for pastoral support and care.  They have a great deal of contact with each pupil in their form and can offer help and guidance on all aspects of the school day. In addition they are able to liaise  closely with parents and provide a link through to other staff and departments.

From Year 4 in the school all pupils  are able to choose a member of staff to act as their Personal Tutor.  Once chosen each pupil has the best possible link with the staff team – the member of staff they like and trust most of all and therefore the person most able to sort out problems and difficulties that all pupils face in the course of their schooling.   New Eccles Hall places a great deal of emphasis on this personal tutor system and through their Tutor all pupils have a right of appeal on matters of discipline and they are encouraged to use their Tutor in times of trouble or difficulty whether social or academic.    In order to ensure that this important  link remains secure pupils are able to change personal tutors each academic year.

In addition to the Tutor all pupils belong to one of the two competitive houses operating in school for sporting and other team activities;  named Coke and Keppel.    Each house has a Housemaster and all staff are assigned to the Houses.  The Housemaster is able to keep a benevolent eye on all the pupils in their house, assisting with problems where required.

On many occasions we are asked why our pastoral system works?  The fact that New Eccles Hall is a small community school of less than two hundred pupils means that all pupils are known by all the staff.  Strengths can be appreciated and weaknesses supported from the Headmaster down through all the departments of the school.
